Alphabet Pairs
The Alphabet Pairs program displays in random order the 26 letters of the alphabet in both upper and lower case.
The aim is to click on a letter, then click on letter in the other case to make a matching pair, e.g. H and h. When a letter is selected, its sound may optionally be heard.
When the first letter is selected its back ground turns green. When the second letter is selected and it is the correct letter, its background turns green and then the matching letters disappear. If the second letter selected does not make a matching pair, its background briefly turns red and then returns to white.
When all the letters have be paired off, the success message is displayed and optionally heard.
An overall success rating of up to five stars may be displayed - points are deducted each time a wrong letter is selected (i.e. its background displayed red).
The puzzle may be repeated by selecting the New Game option
from the File
menu. The pieces will again be randomly displayed.
A special version, using the arrow and enter keys, is available for students who find mouse control difficult. For this version please e-mail your request: for the Alphabet Pairs (Keys) version.
The normal sound for the letter Z is 'zed' , if you would prefer the sound to be 'zee', please e-mail your request for this version.
