Division

The Division program gives practice in simple division and allows users to select the dividend size they wish to practise. Initially a two digit dividend is displayed, but the user may change the number of digits in the dividend; between 2 and 5 digits may be selected.

Before displaying the first question, a dialog explaining the words used in division is displayed. This dialog may be accessed at any time from the Help menu.

The divisor is a random number in the range 2 to 9 and the dividend is also a random number.

The user is prompted to type the quotient and/or remainder digits to complete the answer to the question. The user may request help at any prompt by clicking on a Hint button.

The following is an example of a quotient hint.

If the user requests a bigger hint for the quotient, then the hint dialog changes to the following:

The following examples show a remainder dialog and the associated hint dialogs:

After ten questions have been answered correctly, the user is given the option of continuing with the same size dividend, changing the dividend size or quitting the program.

Optionally, a sound may be played to indicate that the correct digit has been typed. The computer beeps when a wrong key is pressed.  After three wrong digits have been type the hint dailog is displayed.
