WordMatch
The WordMatch program uses a text file prepared by the tutor, using a text editor such as Notepad. The file may contain up to 100 lines, each containing a comma-separated list of four words. The first word is one which the student should know and the other three should look or sound similar to the first word, e.g. comb, came, dome, come. Full details for preparing further lists of words to suit different levels of students' ability are included in the program Help file.
The WordMatch program displays the first word of a line in yellow at the left side of the screen and all four words as a column in blue at the right. The words are displayed in random order and preceded by a button.
The aim is to choose the matching word by clicking the button in front of it, or by using the arrow and enter keys. The current button has a magenta border.
If the selected word does not match, it turns grey, but when the correct word is selected, it turns yellow and the student is congratulated. Three points are scored for each correct answer, but one point is deducted for each wrong answer. When the OK button in the congratulation message is selected, the next line of words is displayed.
When all the words in a set have been correctly selected, a success rating of up to five stars is displayed. The congratulation message is displayed and the student is invited to work through the set again.
If the student does not wish to work through the set again, a different set may be chosen.
