Word Sort
The Word Sort program aims to give the student practice in arranging words in alphabetical order.
The maximum length of the words to be sorted is selected using the Word Length radio buttons. Short words have up to 5 characters, Medium words have 6-10 characters and Long words have more than 10 characters.
When the Start button is clicked, ten words of the required length are randomly selected from a large selection of words and displayed on the screen. The student must use the up or down button beside each word to move it up or down the list, until s/he is satified that all words are in alphabetical order, and then click on the Done button.
If the words are in correct alphabetical order, a success rating of up to 5 stars is displayed and the student is invited to sort another list of words.
If the words are not correctly sorted, the words out of position are briefly highlighted in red and the student should continue sorting the words.
For each set of words the student may score 5 points, but every time the Done button is prematurely pressed a point is deducted until there are no points left for this set of words. The Success Rating displays the average score over all the sets of words attempted.
